1.Congress Sepcial Report

In the opening ceremony, two senior scholars' special reports were very impressive.

Dr. JüRGEN DOLD thought that the revolution of digitalisation was going on. It was reflected from our mobile phones, vehicles and other morden tools. The Digital Realities would permeate the social life, as well as the Virtual Reality (VR), the Internet of Things (IOT) and so on.

4

In practical, there were main two methods realizing the digitalisation for surveying. First, the digital realities can be developed from observed angle and distance, which requirs the technology intergration (such as robotic inspection, mobile reality capture and so on) to cover objects above ground, on ground, in-ground and underground.

5

Second, it also can be developed from the existing vector map. As a special commodity, map can intergrate the services of the digital realities in a form of cloud services, which was simple, consistent and practical.

6

It made life much more convenient with the augmented real-time location data, such as traffic, density of population, location of goods.

Prof. Nadia Magnenat Thalmann has pioneered research into virtual humans over the last 30 years. In the report, she made a summary about the studies of her research group MIRALab at the University of Geneva (www.miralab.ch). In the presentation, she shown 3 applications: 1) in modelling athletes for replay ancient sports, named 3D Anatomical Human which is an EU research project; 2) in fashion model modelling, called Virtual Try-On (VOT) application; 3) in modelling virtual anatomical and physiological specific patients.

Apart from the special reports, the congress awarded some outstanding scholars in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing.

11

The Brock Gold Medal Award is the top honor prize of photogrammetry and remote sensing. The winner of the award is Wolfgang Forstner for his outstanding contributions.

12

The Otto von Gruber Award, which is donated by International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), consists of a medal and a monetary grant, and is presented to the author, under 40 years of age, of a paper of outstanding merit in the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences over the 4 years prior to the Congress. The winner of the award is WAI YEUNG YAN for his remarkable contribution in LiDAR.

At the end of the ceremony, a special local dance Won everyone's applause.
