The invited report of Prof. Xi-Peng Shen from North Carolina State University in USA is successfully held in the meeting room-202 in the School of Remote Sensing and Engineering of Wuhan University on 9:30 a.m. in 13/12/2016. Prof. Shen is inverted by the Computer Vision and Remote Sensing Laboratory (WHU-CVRS Lab). The topic of this report is “Overcoming GPU Hardware Limitations through Software Innovations”.
During the one and a half hour report, Dr. Shen, who has been working on the broad field of compiler and programming systems in the last ten years' research, firstly introduced some inherent hardware limitations about the design of GPU and presented a set of system software innovations over these limitations. Then Dr. Shen showed how these techniques effectively overcome the hardware limitations, significantly enhancing both performance and productivity for a wide range of applications on GPU.?At the end of the presentation, Dr. Shen gave a brief introduction on the graduate program at NCSU, and answered the questions of the students. Students and professors from School of Remote Sensing and Engineering and the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing attended this meeting.
